Com a exposição Ninguém termina na ponta dos dedos, de Sandra Valle, começa um ciclo expositivo co-programado pela Galeria Imago e o Instituto de Produção Cultural e Imagem (IPCI) que vem reforçar a parceria entre as duas instituições. Três momentos expositivos em que convidamos três artistas emergentes do panorama nacional, apoiando, como é habitual, o início da carreira de jovens artistas de Portugal.

Uma narrativa que começa na frieza analítica de Sandra Valle que, parafraseando os futuristas, adianta-se a uma sorte de tempos vindouros que desumanizam as cidades e, portanto, a sociedade. Um trabalho com landscapes escultóricas nas quais a ausência de cores enfatiza a crueza da realidade que a autora prognostica. Com este dilacerante começo, só nos cabe ir em contramão, recuando desde esse discurso para uma meta mais emocional, por um caminho humanizante.

With Sandra Valle’s exhibition Ninguém termina na ponta dos dedos (No one ends up on their fingertips) begins an exhibition cycle co-programmed by Galeria Imago and Instituto de Produção Cultural e Imagem (IPCI), that strengthens the partnership between these two institutions. Three exhibition moments in which we invite three different emerging artists from the national scene, supporting, as usual, the beginning of the career of young artists in Portugal.

This narrative begins with the analytical coldness of Sandra Valle who, paraphrasing the futurists, anticipates a future that dehumanizes cities and, therefore, the society. A work with sculptural landscapes in which the absence of colors emphasizes the crudeness of the reality that the author predicts. With this disruptive beginning, it is only up to us to go against the grain, retreating from this discourse towards a more emotional goal, along a humanizing path.

A digitalização das cidades (e das sociedades) é cada vez maior. Num imenso cruzamento de informação, movimentos e pensamentos são armazenados numa pegada digital hiper-detalhada alimentando infindáveis armazéns de Big Data nos quais as decisões são tomadas por algoritmos computorizados. Estamos a assistir ao fim da privacidade como direito fundamental enquanto nos subtraem a individualidade em prol de uma prometida segurança.

É urgente repensarmos as cidades que estamos a deixar para as gerações futuras. Cidades nas quais, com certeza, a vigilância se vai sobrepor a qualquer questão humana e mundana. Algo que se tem acelerado após a proibição das liberdades impostas pelos estados nos últimos dois anos, o que fez disparar as práticas e estratégias de controlo. O medo foi a desculpa perfeita que justificou até a implementação de um passaporte digital que distingue a cidadania e privilegia uma suposta segurança sanitária aos direitos fundamentais da livre circulação e da não discriminação. Com as mudanças veio uma rápida adaptação que gerou já uma espécie de pós-humano, mais submetido, mais dominado e mais fiscalizado.

The digitization of cities (and societies) is increasing. In an immense intersection of information, movements and thoughts are stored in a hyper-detailed digital footprint, feeding endless warehouses of Big Data in which decisions are made by computerized algorithms. We are witnessing the end of privacy as a fundamental right while individuality is being taken away from us in favor of a promised security.

It is urgent to rethink the cities we are leaving for future generations. Cities in which, of course, surveillance will override any human and mundane issue. Something that has accelerated after the prohibition of freedoms imposed by states in the last two years, which has triggered control practices and strategies. Fear was the perfect excuse that even justified the implementation of a digital passport that distinguishes citizenship and privileges a supposed health security to the fundamental rights of free movement and non-discrimination. With the changes came a rapid adaptation that already generated a kind of post-human, more subjected, more dominated and more supervised.
